Prof. Dr. Mehmet ALTAN

He was born in Ankara in January 1953. He completed his elementary,secondary and high school education in İstanbul. Following his graduation from İstanbul Academy of Economy and Commercial Sciences in 1979, he went to France for his master and doctorate degrees in the same year.

In Paris Pantheon Sorbonne University I, he was entitled as senior with his study analysing Turkey-IMF relations in 1980, and he was entitled as doctor with his thesis analysing USA and SSCB relations.

During his higher education, he worked at a private company and turkish news agency. At the time of his doctorate education he wrote articles for various newspapers. He worked as paris reporter of Cumhuriyet newspaper. In 1985, he compiled his essays in his book named ‘ant with wings’. After his academy bookstore essay prize for this book, he published his scientific study Supers and Turkey ,which he wrote under the inspiration of his thesis.

After returning back to Turkey in 1984 ,he worked as a planning specialist at Turkey Bottle and Glass Factories Co. In 1986 he worked as assistant professor at İstanbul University Faculty of Economics. In 1987 he became associate professor then professor in 1993. Mehmet Altan currently works as an academic member of Istanbul University Faculty of Economics Department of Economy Politics. He worked at Sabah Journal between the years 1987 and November 2006, and from then on till January 2012 he wrote articles as editor-in-chief in Star Journal.
