East Entryway Arch

The arch of the east entrance is being formed with steel stud bracing that was assembled on the ground, lifted up, and secured to the structural steel beams.

Each piece of bracing had to be specifically measured and cut in order to form the radius of the arch. Many brothers were needed to complete this task.

The framing has been completed and now the process of attaching drywall has begun. The peak of the arch is about 40 feet above the ground, accessible only by boom lifts.

Progress in the Southwest Women's Restroom

Drywall is being installed in one of the women's restroom. About 500 linear feet of framing needs to be covered in this restroom alone.

Once the drywall has been installed, the walls have to be painted in preparation for laying tile.

Tile laying has now begun. Over 7,000 square feet of tile is needed just for this restroom, about half of the total area of all the restrooms combined.

Concrete Curbs in Parking Lot

Forms were hand built and poured to enclose the many planters throughout the property.

Just over 60 feet of curb is shown in this picture. There is a total of more than 21,000 lineal feet of curb for all the planters.

Water runoff channels have been formed and poured as well.

Site Work - Irrigation

Trenches have been dug on the north side of the property. Piping and electrical wiring for irrigation will be placed in the trenches, as well as conduit for electrical wiring to power the lights in the parking lot.

Drip irrigation lines have been installed in a planter that runs parallel to the north fence, bordering the I-5 freeway. Over 50,000 linear feet of drip line is needed to water all the planters on the property.

Concrete Crushing

A concrete crusher was used to recycle concrete slab that was removed from inside the building.

This resulted in over 4,000 tons of crushed material which will be used as base material for the parking lot upon which pavers will be placed.

Interior Wall Framing

We are beginning to frame the interior walls using light gauge metal studs. After plumbing pipe and electrical conduit are in place, the walls will be closed in with drywall. Approximately 106,100 square feet of drywall will be used throughout the entire building.

Mechanical Platforms

This structure is a mechanical platform, upon which various pieces of equipment sit, such as air handler units. These units are an integral part of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system and weigh from 3,500 pounds up to 9,000 pounds.

Concrete Pour

After the rebar and steel are in place, the final step is to pour concrete...and a lot of it! If you look carefully, there are three trucks inside the building, and another three waiting outside.

When it comes to pouring concrete, it's "all hands on deck".

All done! At least for now...

Big Steel Beams

Some existing columns will be removed in order to create a clear-span section (120' x 90') that can seat 2,000.  However, there is the need for two big steel beams to be added. Each beam is about 36" tall, and more than 90 feet long and weighs more than 23,000 pounds.

New Chilled Water Lines

Two 8" chilled water lines are needed for the air conditioning of the Ministry Conference Center.

May 2008 - This is the beginning of the installation of the insulated pipe. The lines run from the main chiller plant, 1,700 feet to the Ministry Conference Center.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

In addition to structural steel, rebar is added for additional structural stability.

First, the existing concrete slab is cut and pulled out.

Then a trench is dug and compacted in preparation for the addition of rebar.

After careful maneuvering, the rebar is placed in the trench.

More than 77,000 pounds of rebar will be added. Some pieces are 1 3/8" in diameter. Some are longer than 56 feet in length.

Electrical Conduit

Stacks of electrical conduit await the installation of more than 44,000 linear feet of cable and wiring.

Hanging ductwork

There is a significant risk factor involved with this project. The majority of the work will be conducted in the air, between 16 to 30 feet high.
