Tim Berry resigns as Indiana State Auditor

Tim-Berry

Indiana State Auditor handed in his resignation to Governor Mike Pence effective Tuesday, August 13, 2013.  Berry’s resignation comes nearly 3 weeks after he accepted the Chairman of the Indiana Republican Party.  Deputy Auditor Kirke Willing started service as auditor today on an interim basis.

Governor Mike Pence issued the following statement on Berry’s resignation:

“We thank Tim for his service to the people of Indiana,” Pence said in the statement. “He put taxpayers first, implemented new financial accounting software and worked closely with local governments in his role as auditor, and we are grateful for his contributions.”

Indiana Democratic Chairman John Zody issued the following statement on Berry’s resignation:

“It’s unclear why Auditor Berry didn’t step down more than three weeks ago when he was named to the partisan role of GOP State Chair. Instead, taxpayers have spent almost a month funding his political activity while he ‘volunteered’ as a party boss. We believe Hoosier taxpayers deserve better — and they probably deserve a refund for the time Chairman Berry remained in public service while engaging in a political role.”

Governor Pence is expected to name Berry’s replacement at a press conference Thrusday, August 15th.
