European Defence Leagues

Numerous offshoots of the English Defence League (EDL) have been launched since 2009 to form an international Defence League movement, which is opposed to the Islamisation of Europe and the wider-world.

In 30 October 2010 there was an attempt to form the Euroepan Defence League in Amsterdam, though the demonstration was poorly attended and there has been little international co-ordination since. The European Defence League claims to campaign against Sharia law and the Islamisation of Europe, though it is still dominated by the only successful group, the English Defence League. It is allied to the European Freedom Initiative (EFI). The European Defence League was re-launched at a European CounterJihad rally of national Defence Leagues and counter-jihadist activists in Ärhus, Denmark on 31 March 2012, which was attended by Defence League groups from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, UK, Germany and Russia.
