The history of Arla Apetina®

Feta cheese has played a central role in the history of Arla Foods. From the middle of the 1970s until the beginning of the 1990s huge quantities of Danish milk were turned into feta and exported to the Middle East.

In 1987, Greece filed a law suit with the EU Supreme Court, which in 2005 resolved that only products made in Greece from sheep and goats’ milk are entitled to the name “feta” in EU. In 1991, the Arla brand Apetina® was created and subsequently selected as Arla’s brand in EU for white cheese.

Market range

Sold in more than 30 countries worldwide, Arla Apetina® is currently one of Arla’s strongest international brands. A traditional white cheese, Arla Apetina® is exclusively produced at Arla’s Kruså dairy in Denmark.

Another Arla dairy, Bislev, also produces an ultra-filtered white cheese which is primarily exported to the Middle East under the Three Cows® and Puck® brands.
