Straight for Equality in Faith Communities

“I have gay friends who I love. I also go to church and consider myself a religious person. Unfortunately, those two parts of my life don’t match up so well. I feel like I’m always stuck in a debate about how I can make those two statements, and often, it just seems so hopeless that I don’t even talk about it anymore.”

Sound familiar?

In a world where people look for definitive answers, finding resolution between what our religion teaches us and our support (and even love) for GLBT people often leaves people frustrated, hurt, and unwilling to even talk about the topic. And with the ever-growing numbers of people who say that they personally know GLBT people, this challenge becomes more widespread each day.

Straight for Equality in Faith Communities was designed for this very challenge.

be not afraid – help is on the way! straight for equality in faith communities aims to move the way we understand our religious beliefs and our relationships with GLBT people – and support for equality – away from the either/or, “love the sinner, hate the sin” framework and to a place where people can try to understand that you can be a person of faith, loyal to your religion’s teachings, and someone who supports their GLBT friends and family.

There’s no one way to get to that point. The journey to resolution looks a little different for each person. We hope to get you on that journey, help you know that you’re not alone in asking these questions, offer ways to think about the issue, and even find some support for while you’re on the road.

Welcome to Straight for Equality in Faith Communities.
