The Winners of the SiciliAmbiente: Documentary category

The documentary contest jury, composed by David Riondino, Marzia Mete and Edoardo Fracchia, expresses its appreciation for all the works seen. Each of these gave us stories and points of view from different parts of the world with an excellent and diversified visual and narrative approach.
thanks to the organization that brought in this beautiful part of Sicily a careful quality for environment theme.

Among all the entries, the jury decided to award prizes to the following works:

FIRST PRIZE

The first prize goes ex-aequo to two movies far from each other but united by the attention they give to persons:

A “RODICAS” by Alice Gruia (Germany) for the beauty of the characters, two young eighty year old women with a strength we’d like to have. For the cinematic narrative used to show two lives so intense and the delicacy used to deal important issues such as death, suffering and joy. A debut movie of great sensitivity.

“L’ISOLA DEGLI AUGURI” by Aya Hanabusa (Japan) for the determination that drove the author to follow two years of the fishermen struggle against nuclear issue. For the expressive power given by some sequences, showing us a culture so far. For the ability to narrate the relationship between man and nature, leaving the viewer to immerse themselves in the way of sensations. Beautiful actors, beautiful images and very effective narrative time.

SECOND PRIZE

“BEHIND THE SCREEN” by Stefan Baumgartner (Austria) with the following reason:
a film that uses rigor and courage to lead an investigation that concerns all of us consumers of technology. Raw materials leave Africa for the assembly of computers that then return to Africa in the form of garbage. A survey on the exploitation of earth and human resources in the name of the technology hunger in the Western world.
