• Jimmy Savile: How did he get away with it?

  Jimmy Savile 'groomed the nation', according to police. So, how did he get away with committing hundreds of serious sexual offences inside public institutions?  He abused in schools, hospitals and the BBC. The NSPCC say he was "hiding in plain sight". But what went wrong and could it happen again?

  BBC News is very interested in talking to survivors of Savile's abuse to hear your thoughts on the enquires and investigations into Savile's abuse.

  We're working closely with NAPAC, trying to piece together how he got away with it, this is for background research.

• TV Documentary

  Title Role are an experienced factual TV company working closely with NAPAC on a programme about the Jimmy Savile case and its wider effect on society’s attitudes towards child abuse.  We would be very interested in talking to victims of Savile’s abuse who are prepared to speak about their experiences.  Of course any information would be treated in the strictest confidence and any interview could be conducted anonymously and with a representative from NAPAC present if appropriate.

  We appreciate how hard it must be even contemplating speaking about events like these but we hope in making this programme more people may be encouraged to come forward, thus further challenging the stigma attached to this terrible crime.

• CEOP are putting out a report tomorrow highlighting an extremely disturbing trend...the rise in live streaming of abuse. Channel 5 News are looking to interview someone who has been sexually abused as a young person...where the abuse was streamed live on the internet. If you would be able to help us source such a person, we would be able to guarantee anonymity if required. We’d like to film with them tomorrow, ideally in the morning and the interview would air at 1700 and 1830.

• Channel 5 Appeal

• After David Cameron’s pledge to stop the rise of images of child abuse online, we at Channel 5 News are looking to talk to survivors of such abuse.  An interview would form part of a series about keeping children safe online.  We want to show this is not a victimless crime, and to illustrate the impact on the children involved, both in the short and long term.

• A group of researchers, led by Dr Amaka Offiah at Sheffield University, are aiming to develop a decision tool database that will help doctors distinguish accidental from abusive fractures.

  The researchers are currently seeking opinions from key stakeholders regarding their project. As part of this, they are looking for volunteers from members of the public to take part in a telephone interview to discuss their views on what issues they think the researchers should include in the database.

  All answers will be anonymous and non-one will be able to tell who gave the answers. Neither the database nor the answers to the telephone interview will be publically accessible. Interviews will take place in 2014/2015.

• URGENT MEDIA REQUEST

  Colleagues at the BBC are urgently looking to speak to someone (an adult survivor) who has come
  forward to speak of the abuse following the Jimmy Savile scandal. They don't have to be a survivor
  of his crimes necessarily but someone prompted by the publicity. The BBC would like to interview the
  person and they can be anonymous. As you know, NAPAC does not keep our callers contact details but
  if you are one of those people and you are willing to speak (and remember this is good publicity for

• CRIME AND COVER UP – INDIEGOGO FUNDING CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
  when: Wednesday 15th May, 2013
• After three highly successful films into Catholic child abuse in Ireland, Brazil and the USA, Sarah Macdonald and Make World Media will focus their attention in the UK, and make a new documentary about sexual abuse by priests and religious of the Roman Catholic Church in the United Kingdom.

‘Crime & Cover Up’ will be one of the first documentaries of its type to be funded on the crowd sourcing website Indiegogo.com. The campaign will go LIVE on WEDNESDAY 15th MAY 2013 for 60 days and the team hopes to raise $100,000USD for the film.

‘Crime & Cover Up’ will expose the true scale of widespread, systematic child abuse that has remained hidden within the Catholic Church in England and Wales for decades. 

To date, there has never been an appropriate, independent statutory investigation into Clerical sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales. For more than a decade Roman Catholic leaders in England and Wales have insisted that they acted early to address this issue and properly protect children in their care. But we know this isn't true. We hope this documentary will expose the shocking truth about abuse by priests and religious in diocese all across England and Wales and force the British government to implement a statutory, entirely independent inquiry into the scale of clerical sexual abuse, and legislate for mandatory reporting of child abuse within schools. Currently schools in England and Wales’ child protection policies are based on ‘guidelines’ only and not on laws requiring mandatory reporting of all concerns to the relevant state authorities.

This isn't a story based in the distant past; it’s a story of abuse and cover up that post dates the revelations in the USA, Ireland and across the Roman Catholic World. These revelations will reignite the scandals that have dogged the Roman Catholic Church over the past twenty years or more and one which will challenge the newly elected Pope Francis to respond to clerical crimes.

‘Crime & Cover Up’ will bring together a team critical in breaking the silence surrounding Catholic child abuse in Ireland and the USA.  Award-winning investigative journalist and filmmaker, Sarah Macdonald will be supported by Colm O’Gorman, survivor of clergy child abuse, author and renowned human rights activist. Father Tom Doyle, a world renowned canon lawyer, and Dr. Ann Olivarius, managing partner of law firm AO Advocates, also lend their full support and expertise to the film.

This is a global funding raising campaign for a documentary with global repercussions.  Funding this documentary will be a large step towards gaining full recognition for all victims of Clergy child abuse worldwide.

• Documentary photographer, Emily Macinnes, is looking for male survivors of childhood abuse to share their stories.  The aim of the project is to raise awareness about a subject that is often kept quiet despite its frightening prevalence - with 1 in 6 males abused before the age of 18.  In sharing your stories I hope that the many others who have not yet had the courage to reach out for support will find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

• My name is Becca Bland and I'm a freelance journalist, working on a campaign about estrangement. I would really like to talk to abuse survivors that have cut contact with their families and have somehow managed a reconciliation. I am working on a piece for the Family section of The Guardian which is trying to break down the stigma about standing alone in the world and the difficulties in doing so. My questions would not be directed at your childhood story but about the rational behind your decision to try and reconcile such a difficult situation and how you went about doing so.

• February 2013

• We are currently  working on a report for our national news programme on CEOP's "alert button" . This follows a recent case in Switzerland when a victim of a paedophile was groomed online, and then went on to meet her abuser. The idea of the report is to see whether Switzerland should adopt the alert button and some of the measures that have been adopted in the UK to combat sexual exploitation of children and minors.

  We are looking for a survivor who would be willing to be interviewed to camera on this topic, and answer two questions: "would something like the CEOP alert button have helped in your case?" and  a question about the pain of knowing there are pictures of abuse on the internet.
  
  We have filmed at CEOP and will be filming with the Internet Watch Foundation on Wednesday 6 March. The interview, which would be pre-recorded, would take place in the afternoon or evening of 6 March (possibly at the offices of Napac). Should the interviewee wish to, we could of course disguise his or her identity during the filming.

  From previous work with survivors, we are very aware of how difficult this is, but also know that hearing a victim of abuse is the most effective way of getting across the impact of abuse.  Please feel free to contact me directly or via Napac if you need more details about the interview.

• THE THINGS THEY SAY...

• More info: Is anyone willing to PLEASE help with this article?  From my own experience as a target of childhood sexual
  abuse (and other abuses) I got the idea for a feature about the long term potentially devastating effects on a target
  of the 'THINGS THEY SAY'.  That is - the things a perpetrator tells their target, either to coerce or
  to threaten what will happen if the child tells someone.

  Each case is unique and I'm keen to find people who don't mind being identified with a pic, 
  though of course the name of the perpetrator can/will be changed.  Sometimes a fee is paid by the magazine/newspaper.

  I also want to do an article on  'THRIVORS'.  Is anyone willing to help with this, to show that it's possible 
  to not only get over being abused but proactively go on to lead a happy, productive life, and maybe even go on to do something
  extraordinary.

• Hello, I am a journalist working for the weekly news programme Sept à Huit on French broadcaster TF1.  We are currently preparing a story about the Jimmy Savile affair.  We will talk to people, who have been in touch with Sir Savile over the years, politicians and journalists.
  We are also looking for victims who might be willing to speak out on the matter.  Such an interview would take no longer than 1h30 and would ideally be done in a place such as Duncroft School.  I understand this is a very delicate subject, but such a testimony would really help us to better understand what happened during all these years.

• Research into the effects of Childhood maltreatment on the brain.

• I am based at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London and am carrying out an important research into the effect of childhood physical abuse on the brain using MRI brain imaging. The aim of the research is to find out more about the effect of childhood maltreatment on the brain and we hope that, ultimately, this knowledge will inform therapy and treatment for abuse survivors as well as help to raise awareness of the detrimental effect that child abuse can have. I am contacting you to appeal for any help that you could offer at all in assisting us with recruitment of volunteers. This could either be by helping us to identify suitable individuals and seeking consent for us to contact them, or by simply giving out some information sheets about the study.

We are looking for 3 groups of (right-handed) young people between the ages 12-20: 1) Healthy young people 2) Young people who have been physically abused before the age of 12 3) Young people who have NOT experienced physical/sexual abuse BUT have experienced another traumatic event (Ideally volunteers will be diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), however, we will asses this so it is not essential) Volunteers will need to be able to come along to the Institute of Psychiatry for a brain scan and to fill in some questionnaires with a carer/family member (if under 16 years old).

They will be given £70 to thank them for their time and we can arrange transport or reimburse them for travel. Thank you very much,
