ST JOHN’S, Antigua- Antigua & Barbuda’s lone professional sporting entity, Antigua Barracuda Football Club, is going on an indefinite hiatus.

Chairman of the organization, Gordon “Banks” Derrick says financial hardship has forced the Club to withdraw from this year’s United Soccer League (USL) Professional league.

Derrick doesn’t comment on a return possible return to the pitch.

Barracuda ended the 2013 installment of the USL at the bottom of the standings after having lost all 26 of their fixtures.

The Club was forced to play all away matches after teams in the US complained of performing for empty stadiums here.

Derrick says efforts are being made to settle all the Club’s debts.

Derrick, who also heads the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), says Antigua & Barbuda will feel the impact of the Barracuda’s absence at both the international and local level.
