Alchemy, the power or process of transforming something common into something precious.
Alchemy Fields was once known as the William Zachow Farmstead. The barn where the art gallery is located and log home were built in 1896 by William Zachow for his new bride, Amelia Dorn, whose family lived across the road. Ten children were born to William and Amelia as they farmed and lived a quiet Door County life.
Because of its place in history and the unusual construction of stovewood used both in the barn and the log home, the William Zachow Farmstead, now known as Alchemy Fields, was listed on the National Register and State Register of Historic Places by the Secretary of the Interior on January 9, 1997. “A common farmstead transformed into a precious piece of history.”
