CULTURE – LANGUAGE STUDY – COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Associazione italo-americana “Luciano Finelli” works to create cultural awareness and exchange through several types of activities, like:

  1. Organizing cultural events that are almost always free and open to the Bologna public
  2. Running the American-English school ”EnglishForYou”, available for members
  3. Running awareness and fund-raising campaigns to promote its own activities and often jointly with other non-profit organizations in Bologna
  4. providing financial support to the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Bologna Center program, mainly, but not limited to, fellowships for deserving international students.

The Associazione italo-americana “Luciano Finelli” is the culmination of two important organizations long affiliated with the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University,  l’Associazione di studio e cultura italo-americana and l’Associazione Bologna – Johns Hopkins University.

  1. L’Associazione di studio e cultura italo-americana was founded in 1964 by Dr. Luciano Finelli to strengthen the ties between the city of Bologna and the Americans living in the city by organizing cultural events and courses in American English.
  2. L’Associazione Bologna – Johns Hopkins University, founded in 1984 by Giuseppe Gazzoni-Frascara provided significant support to the Bologna Center   the form of grants and scholarships.

In 2004, these two organizations merged to form the Associazione italo-americana “Luciano Finelli”  which, today, organizes free cultural events and runs an English-language school.  In addition, it raises funds to support students to study at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University.Il Sigillo di Amici della Johns Hopkins University
