The Österreichs Bundesheer discontinued the use of camouflage uniforms in 1978, preferring a solid olive green uniform for its soldiers. At need, however, Austrian soldiers will wear the cams of other nations; for example, these Austrian peacekeepers in Bosnia & Herzegovina wear load-bearing vests patterned in French Centre Europe camouflage. Centre Europe
French Republic
Authorised for wear in 1991 but not widely issued until 1994, the French 'Centre Europe' (CE) pattern is currently the standard camouflage of the French Army. It is a four-colour design, comprising black 'branches' and large, horizontally-aligned medium green and wood brown elements on a tan background. Allegedly the colours were chosen after an analysis of summer foliage in the Fontainebleau forest, which is the largest and most diversified forest in France.
The strong similarity between the horizontal elements in the 'Centre Europe' camouflage pattern and those in the 'Daguet' camouflage pattern suggest that CE might actually be based upon 'Daguet'.
