Jamaican gospel reggae artiste, Chevelle Frankyln, according to reliable sources within Ghana’s gospel music circuit, will in early October storm Ghana in grand style. Sources reveal that the prolific songstress is due to headline a unique praise concert, alongside some notable Ghanaian artistes, in which the music for the day will be solely presented in an island-flavoured fashion, typical of the Caribbean- reggae and its variations.

Probing further, the sources reveal that the concert is an initiative of IAT Productions, the music outfit of Ghana’s king of contemporary gospel, Minister Danny Nettey, as part of his quarterly Secret Place Worship programmes which  are build up concerts to his annual grand December concert, ‘Christmas with Danny Nettey and Friends’. The scheduled date for the concert is Sunday, October 2, 6pm, at the National Theatre was later confirmed by IAT Productions.

Chevelle Franklyn, the guest artiste for the concert dubbed ‘Highland Prayz’, made a sensational shift from her flamboyant career as reggae and dancehall artiste to a minister of gospel in reggae at the peak of former career after having shot to worldwide fame with hits such as ‘Nice and Naughty’ and ‘Dancehall Queen’. She declared this on stage during a grand reggae and dancehall concert and remembered, ‘I was about to sing ‘Dancehall Queen’ and I just said to the crowd, I can’t do this,’ and I started bawl. The people were staring at me. I said there is a song that I want to sing, Kirk Franklin’s ‘Silver and Gold’, so I sang that on stage and never want back to my dancehall ways.’

After her conversion, Chevelle committed to singing and recording only gospel music in the reggae and its variations vein. She has become a household name in the Caribbean, UK and the US for her reggae gospel niche which reveals her vocal prowess with awarding winning albums and hits to her name such as her ‘Joy’, ‘Victory’ and ‘His Way’ albums plus hit songs; ‘Come’, ‘Would You Go?’ and ‘Touch From You’.

‘Highland Prayz’, the third edition of Danny Nettey’s quarterly Secret Place concert takes a Caribbean focus on Sunday October 2 at the National Theatre, 6pm, with host minister Danny Nettey and colleague ministers; Pastor Helen Yawson, Cwesi Oteng, Kojo Oppong-Adjei and Joe Mettle taking praise to another level alongside celebrated Jamaican gospel reggae legend, Chevelle Franklyn. The rate goes for a moderate amount of GHc 25.00. Tickets are on sale at Silverbird Lifestyle Store (Accra Mall), Sunny FM, Joy FM, Batsona Total filling station and as well at the gate.
