Meredith Vieira is departing the syndicated version of quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Vieira has been the host of the syndicated Millionaire since its launch in 2002. This is the final year of Vieira’s current contract and, after 11 years, she’s decided to move on and do other things. Search is underway for a new host.
ABC originally offered Vieira the Millionaire gig to sweeten one of her renegotiations for the network’s The View, which Vieira co-hosted for 9 years. Even after Vieira left The View for NBC’s The Today Show in 2006, she continued to host Disney-ABC’s Millionaire, which earned her two Daytime Emmy Awards in 2005 and 2009.
Vieira has already wrapped the current season of Millionaire, which tapes in advance. The show will continue to air Vieira-hosted originals through May and repeats through the summer after which it will introduce a new host. Vieira started off as a celebrity contestant on the primetime version of Millionaire on ABC hosted by Regis Philbin before taking his chair on the syndicated series.

I didn’t even know that show was still on. I see leaving the Today Show has done wonders for her career.
She left to spend time with her husband who is ill. Spending 2 hrs in the day for “Millionaire” is a lot easier than 4 or 5 hrs from 5-10am every day.
She’s leaving “the syndicated version”. Is there any other version to leave?
As a former Millionaire contestant, I will miss Meredith on the show. She was an incredibly nice woman, even sending all the contestants a thank you note after their appearance. I wish her and her family a good life.
I thought this version of Millionaire was cancelled in 2005? There’s about 8 seasons of episode I have missed? I, for one, dug this show and she was great as the host!
Best of luck to Meredith; but as far as a new host goes, I think they should get Tom Bergeron to do it. He substituted for Viera several times a few years ago, plus he’s under contract to ABC (Co-owners of the show). And considering that it only takes several weeks to tape an entire season of a Game show these days, it shouldn’t interfere with his “Dancing”/”AFV” duties. Think about it.
Meredith is one of the nicest, most gracious people I had the pleasure of working with. I wish her nothing but the best. She will be missed.
She was the best Today show host, even better than Katie. I hope this allows her to do more work for the Today show. Less time with Savannah Guthrie the better!

Meredith is by far the best and most versatile female journalist. I think the Today show would give her a blank check to come back. It’s the best host they’ve ever had. She’s got wits & brains.

With Millionaire wrapped, why wait til September? How about February return during Sweeps? To plug the holes in this sinking ship called Today. Maybe not, ABC most likely has her on-air Talent rights until her Millionaire episodes air.
I agree that Meredith was wonderful on the Today show. She and Matt were the reasons I watched the show.
My husband and I have been watching this show for many years. We miss not seeing Meredith. If it is not possible to have her host the show I have to agree that Tom Bergeron would make a wonderful host.
They could not have found a WORSE replacement for her than they did! We will not watch the show now!!!
I miss Meredith on Millionaire. She is a class act and funny at the same time. Please bring her back. I watched Millionaire mostly because of her poise. Thank you.

Our favourite game show host has been replaced. New host is a very poor choice.
New host cannot compare with Meredith Viera.. she is wonderful, kind
and always encouraging to contestants … I will no longer watch
the program.. it seems a little one sided !!!! sorry not interested now…
