[VIA] New CPU's on K7T266Pro2
« on: 09-July-03, 15:36:45 »

Hi there,

To make it a short guide, the other link but it's rather large so I put a short version here.
Read the above link if you have any more questions, it's just over 500 posts   X-(()

First of all, we are talking about the K7T266pro2(-RU) MS-6380 V2 and NOT any of the other boards like the K7T266pro or the K7T266pro2-A series!!!

Second, if you do this mod, do not complain to anyone if something goes wrong, as YOU did it yourself  :-D)

First test the board with the TBred, if it doesn't work (most likely  :-D)) you get 4 red leds.

Make sure you grease and mount the CPU-cooler properly, see the trouble guide for this!

Make sure your powersupply is upto the task of handling the new CPU, also read the trouble guide for this!

If it happens this means you need to modify the board.
The modification is fairly simple, near the socket you find 3 big caps, near these caps you find a tiny (2x1mm) cap called C37.
It's this C37 that needs to be removed.
The best way to do this is with 2 soldering irons at the same time, so you can take it off like eating with chineese sticks

The board is now ready to support any CPU 100 and 133FSB, Palo, Duron, TBred, etc...all of them.

The package below has the best BIOS and these instructions as well.

The BIOS 3.7beta4 seems to be the best, but 3.6 and 3.7 are good as well.
Beware, some CPU's won't be shown as e.g. AMD XP-2400 but as Athlon 2000 or something strange.
This is only cosmetic and shows the true speed of the XP rather then the XP-xxxx naming.
MSI won't change the BIOS to solve this cosmetic thinggy
As the board isn't supposed to support those new CPU's  :beerchug:
Just live with it.

Have fun.

Ps. Use the other thread to comment, as this thread is closed to prevent it from growing rather large  :-]]]

Note:
Please don't put it on your own server or publish the info...
Also, don't try to ask MSI questions about this, they won't answer anyway.
