Image Title: Sink base modification - 2 pullouts installed
Description: This is a photo of a sink base modification that utilizes 2 deep drawers and 2 30" doors for pullouts in a sink base, rather than the standard 2 door, 2 false drawer setup.

Can I have pull-outs under a 24" sink cab?

This mod looks fantastic.

I'm wondering if I can do this with a 24" sink cabinet?

Any thoughts on how or if it would be a good idea?

I'm thinking that 2 x 12" drawers may not be as useful as I think they may be.

In that case what do you think about making it a 24" wide pullout. Is that possible?

It's not only possible to use a 24" door, but also easier than using two separate 12" doors, since you don't have to install the drawer partition in the middle.

Just make sure you have at least 8" of clearance for the drawer at the bottom of the sink cabinet. Installation is just like any other pull-out base cabinet.

Re: IKEA Fans Photo: Sink base modification - 2 pullouts installed

As a matter of fact I was down at Ikea Sunrise today, and their solar beech kitchen uses a single 24" door on the sink cab (not this useful drawer mod, though) next to the integrated dishwasher, so the effect is like a 48" wide cabinet. It looked really good. As a matter of fact I missed the DW altogether and had to go ask if they had one on display.

Re: IKEA Fans Photo: Sink base modification - 2 pullouts installed

The 24" door would be really nice but I'm not sure about the practicality of one 24" draw. The insides of the sink are going to be at differing heights. With one drawer I would have to keep rearranging things to make sure they cleared pipes and wd. If I had two draws it would be easier to remember which one the shorter stuff had to go in.

I really fancy putting another pull out draw nearer the top for sponges and such. But I doubt if there will be room. I'll probably find something slim that I can fix to the inside top of the door.

I've seen the tilt mods and they are way to difficult for me!

That's what drawer dividers are for.

You can also add Rationell pull out-baskets to the side(s) of the cabinet, to use whatever space is left between the sink, the pipes and the bottom drawer.

(It's too bad the "insert image" option does not seem to be working, otherwise I would post an example of how I did it).

Question Re: IKEA Fans Photo: Sink base modification - 2 pullouts installed

Did you use the 36" sink cabinet or a regular 36" cabinet for the base?

If you used the 36" sink cabinet did you just remove the 2 false small doors?

thanks!

Re: IKEA Fans Photo: Sink base modification - 2 pullouts installed

All base cabinets are one and the same (the frames), the only real difference (besides different sizes) is how you configure the fronts (i.e.: doors/drawers/etc) - there's no such thing as a specific "sink" cabinet frame.

The example above shows a 30" base cabinet frame with two 15"x30" doors attached to the drawers on the bottom.

Here's a rationell side basket installed in a 24" cabinet with a 24" door. It doesn't provide much extra space, but is enough to be useful.

I haven't yet installed a tilt drawer for the top panel.

Costco microfiber towels if I'm not mistaken- super cheap and highly useful replacement for paper towels. Look in the car section!
