Here’s a bit of casting news to make you say Amen: Anna Maria Horsford is joining New Girl as Winston’s tough-talking mom.
The TV vet will guest-star in the Fox comedy’s upcoming Season 2, TVLine has learned exclusively. Her character, Charmaine Bishop, is a Chicagoan who raised all of her children to become professional basketball players — in Winston’s case, at least, it worked for a while! Oh, and Mama Bishop hates Schmidt. (As if such a thing were possible!)

Horsford is best known for playing Sherman Hemsley’s character’s daughter Thelma in NBC’s Amen. Her other TV credits include Grey’s Anatomy, The Shield and Everybody Hates Chris.
New Girl returns to Fox at 8/7c and 9/8c on Tuesday, Sept 25.

shouldn’t that be tough talking or does she really take it tough?
It does. Your eyes must be playing tricks on you.
Just tell me that Kali Hawk will return as Winston’s girlfriend.
Anna Maria is one of the most versatile actresses in the world. She’s completely believable playing rich or poor, smart or stupid, butch or feminine, mean/nice or anywhere in between. I’m always glad to hear she’s still getting work, though Thelma will always have a special place in my heart (I loved that such a lovesick wallflower actually got the man of her dreams–it was my favorite thing about that show).
She was also the security guard on the Wayans brother’s show. That’s where I knew her from first.
Thanks for sharing, this is a fantastic blog.Really thank you! Keep writing.
