If you love endless racing, the Asphalt series and more importantly the 80′s, then Asphalt Overdrive is your dream game.

Now with Overdrive you are not doing any racing,  you are trying to escape the police before they catch up and bust you. The game has level-based missions in where you have to maintain your speed by not crashing into any obstacles so that you can have a nice distance from the police.

When you first fire up the game, you will find yourself behind the wheel of an 80′s style Ferrari, unfortunately the drive does not last very long. When you finish your first mission you will have the option to choose from one of three cars, once you choose your ride, it will be time to hit the streets.

After learning the basics, you will have to complete, a bunch of missions, some missions will include getting away from the police,  and doing stunts. Now if you are thinking you can control your cars’ speed think again, the only way you can boost your car’s speed is by using nitro. You can fill your nitro meter by smashing into the side of other cars, by pulling off some tricks using the off ramps, and by collecting nitro bottles during your run.

Gameloft does make good-looking mobile games, and Asphalt Overdrive is a good-looking game with an 80′s look. The game will remind you of 80′s and its style just like it did in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game’s soundtrack fits well with 80′s themed game. Now if you can remember the Delorean DMC-12 well the car can be won, if you successfully defeat the boss twice, if you beat a boss twice his/her car will be your for the keeping. I do love the fact the franchise does take a different direction, in a way it does keep things fresh.

Now there a few issues I do have with the game. Why do games have an energy system? With such as Asphalt all I want to do is play the game, why do developers want to limit the number of time someone can play a game. Progressing in a game should be fun to do, but here is acts more like an obstacle. The game will constantly and I do mean constantly throw so many obstacles , so that the player is required to spend money in order to get through. If you were to play a mission and you car is underclassed, you will need to spend in-game cash. So in other words you need in-game cash to succeed.

I would have loved if there was more unlock-able  80′s cars, such as the 80′s Knight Rider,  the Ghostbusters ECTO-1, or even the hovering Delorean from Back to the Future part 2 would have been great to drive. The game does have issues such as that pesky energy system. But the game is sure to be a hit with those grew up in the 80′s.
