Savage ‘Civil War’ ignores own call to disparage and disarm Americans resisters

Michael Savage warns of a second Civil War in a ‘post-Constitutional’ society,” The Washington Times headline proclaims in a feature on the radio talk show star and author’s latest book, “Stop the Coming Civil War: My Savage Truth.”

“I fear the worst. Right now Americans are angrier and more divided than I’ve seen them since the 1960s,” Savage declares. “Right now the prognosis is not good. We have an incompetent zealot taking the nation down the road of weakness and centralized governmental control of every aspect of our daily lives. Just as individuals snap when the pressure becomes too great, so, too, does a nation.”

“As I see it, the forces of the left are attempting nothing less than a socialist takeover of the world economy and global politics,” WND.com quotes Savage. “Obama’s been engaged in a civil war from the day he seized the presidency. He said he’s going to transform America. What was that? What was that declaration? It’s a declaration of war against the country’s traditional values and freedoms.”

So is Savage talking about what it sounds like? The promo blurb for the book on Amazon appears to dial things back from inflammatory headlines and rhetoric.

“Not a war of bullets and blood - but one of commitment to freedom and courage of conviction,” the overview explains. “A page-turner from start to finish, this [intelligent and principled] fervent warning offers the Savage truth -- a call to action in the voting booth - in order to defend the freedoms our Constitution so brilliantly established.”

That’s a relief. Because if things ever devolve beyond that, Savage has previously placed himself squarely on the side of bolstering the monopoly of violence in favor of those he says have declared war against traditional America.

Unfortunately, his 2009 unsubstantiated opinion piece -- where he proclaimed the futility of resisting government tyranny and asked if it’s time to ban modern semiautomatic firearms in order to keep the police from being “outgunned” -- no longer appears at its original url on the WND site. Fortunately, the “Wayback Machine” Internet Archive has a long memory.

As do I.

“Is it time to ban assault rifles?” Savage asked. “What are they really needed for?”

“That is nonsense,” he responded to the contention that arms are needed to defend freedom, revealing just where he stood (still stands?) on citizens resisting the tyranny he now warns against. “If the government wants to take your rights away or imprison you for whatever reason, your owning an assault rifle is not going to stop it.

We've heard such counsel before.

“So we have to ask: If the police are not allowed to have these types of weapons, then why is the public allowed have them,” Savage concluded with a false assumption that either reveals intentional deception or else astonishing ignorance. “I want you, The Savage Nation to tell me why.”

More to the point would be if he told the Savage Nation why he wrote what he did and if he still believes it, or if he is willing to publicly renounce all or any part of his wrong-headed, un-American and defeatist screed.

While he’s at it, he might also explain how a “fiery conservative” could ever support “progressive” Jerry Brown for any public office.

UPDATE: Don't take my word for it. Take his.

My latest GUNS Magazine “Rights Watch” column, “Garden State Gun Criminal,” examines the outrageous persecution of single mother Shaneen Allen, who tried to do the right thing and cooperate with police, but is nonetheless having her life destroyed over a technicality. Funny, how no “progressive” black or women’s groups have demanded justice for her.
