EXCLUSIVE: After appearing in almost all episodes of The Bridge‘s first season, recurring cast members Emily Rios and Matthew Lillard are being promoted to regulars for Season 2. The move also signals their characters’ increasing importance in the upcoming storyline. Rios and Lillard play El Paso Times reporters Ariana Mendez and Daniel Frye. In the season one finale, the two came across a home filled with cash that will lead to an investigation on both sides of the border in the second season. The Bridge also is undergoing a behind-the-scenes change, with Meredith Stiehm, who developed the series with Elwood Reid and served as executive producer/co-showrunner on Season 1, returning to Showtime’s Homeland full-time, with Reid taking over day-to-day-responsibilities on The Bridge. (Stiehm remains an executive producer.) Rios, repped by Domain and Kass Management, is probably best known for playing Jessie Pinkman’s ill-fated girlfriend Andrea Cantillo on Breaking Bad. She also has recurred on Men Of A Certain Age and Friday Night Lights. Lillard is best known for the Scooby-Doo and Scream franchises.

Matthew Lillard is such a talented actor. It’s about time he gets a regular gig. I might have to catch up on The Bridge.
Such an awful show. Good thing it’s under new management.
Bout damn time — they pulled both of them along long enough, good to see the ups!
Great news! The wife and I really enjoy the show.
Ummm, Lillard was in the Oscar winning The Descendants, not worth a mention? Very glad to see their roles expanded, they were a great part of the show that kept me hooked as well as the dynamics of Ted Levine and Johnny Dowers
I don’t remember that…
But then the film wasn’t very good.
I remember a bikini. But that’s about it.
Emily is in route to become a great actress Love her work. Great job CONGRADULATION!!!!
Emily Rios has made us proud, perfecting the art of acting. We are excited to see her in all her projects.
So happy to hear this! I was just thinking about Daniel Frye yesterday and wondering when I would see him again.
It was a little hard for me to get into the Bridge initially, but as everyone settled into their groove and the plot thickened…. I really came to like this show. The acting is superb… Kruger and Damien are fantastic… Ted Levine is amazing. The whole cast is great. Can’t remember the name of the guy who rescues women, but he’s great too.
And I love that the show is exposing the US to some of the issues Mexico deals with in such a realistic way.
So glad it’s renewed and that Lillard and Rios will be back… they are integral to the show’s chemistry.
When will it start again? I am jonesing!
About time. Actually, long over due. Mat had long string of unimpressive roles, i’m glad he now have place to show his skills.
Fantastic news! Lillard is a tremendous talent!
what about Detective Cooper, is he not returning to the show, love the ‘stache dude!
the mustache deserves separate billing! never seen the actor before but he’s frickin’ funny.
That’s Johnny Dowers and he rocks
