One dead in Manang Air helicopter crash


At least one person has been reported dead in the Manang Air helicopter crash in Ridikot of Humla district Sunday morning.

According to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the deceased is a Russian engineer for the MI-17 helicopter. Manang Air said Russian national Sergei Kovyazo died in the incident. 

The helicopter crashed at around 10:30 this morning while trying to land. The chopper was carrying food items from Surkhet. Four crew members and two other people were aboard the flight.

The other five people – copilot Raju Bhandari, Chartered Accountant Krishna Amatya, overseer Bishnu Bahadur Chaudhary, local resident Lok Bahadur and a Russian pilot – have been injured in the incident and rushed to hospital in Nepalgunj via another helicopter for treatment. The Manang Air helicopter is partly damaged due to accident.

The reason for the crash is not known yet.

About two weeks ago, a domestic aircraft met with a minor crash in Syangboche of Solukhombhu district while attempting take off. There were no casualties in the incident. nepalnews.com
