PH Super Liga sees banner year

The Philippine Super Liga sees a banner year following the finality of its tournament calendar featuring two exciting conferences.

Their activities will start with a two-day draft camp on March 6 to 7 where aspiring spikers hope to make their presence felt to be selected for the draft day happening on March 11.

PSL President Tats Suzara said they are eyeing the lobby of the SM Aura in Taguig City for the draft’s venue, but details have yet to be finalized.

The All Filipino Conference will blast off on March 21 to May 31 with four returning teams Petron, Foton, Philips Gold (formerly Mane ‘N Tail) and Cignal. Two to four expansion teams are also being finalized to join the roster.

Suzara said they have already signed up with TV5 as its television partner on free TV, with Solar Sports still scheduled to continue with its cable coverage of the tournament. More details will be made in the coming days.

The league, however, will take a break from May 1 to 9 to give way for the Asian U23 Women’s Championship.

A Beach Volleyball Summer Challenge Cup will also be held on June 5 to 7, followed by the participation of Cignal in the Asian Men’s Club Championship from Aug. 13 to 21 in Taiwan.

Highlighting the year will be the anticipated Women’s Champions League on Aug. 15 to 22, where top teams from the PSL, the Shakey’s V-League, the UAAP and the NCAA will be battling it out in a friendly but competitive tournament.

The Beach Volleyball Open Series is set on Aug. 28 to Oct. 11, followed by Petron’s participation in the Asian Women’s Club Championship on Sept. 12 to 20 in Vietnam and the import-flavored PSL Grand Prix on Oct. 17 to Dec. 5.

Top players from Italy, Brazil, United States and Russia are already expressing their interest to play in the country this early after the successful edition of the Grand Prix last year.
