About the Cotati Chamber of Commerce

The Cotati Chamber of Commerce is a business organization which seeks to promote the economic prosperity of the City of Cotati. The Chamber does this through Economic Development services, business services, and community-wide events. The Cotati Chamber has a long and vibrant history as one of the oldest community organizations in the area.

History of the Cotati Chamber of Commerce

The Cotati Chamber of Commerce has been promoting and serving the community of Cotati since before Cotati was much more than a stop on the railroad. Originally known as the Cotati Promotion Club, the Chamber formed in the early 1900’s in order to provide support services for the township that grew out of the distribution and sale of the lands from the Page Family.

Around the time of World War I, the Cotati Promotion Club shed its name, instead opting to be known as the Cotati Chamber of Commerce. The transformation of Cotati from little more than a railroad stop into a vibrant community came rapidly, and the Chamber of Commerce was there throughout.

During the Great Depression of the 30’s, the Lions Club took over the civic functions of the Chamber. However in 1940, the Chamber was reactivated and incorporated in 1958. From working to bring Sonoma State University to the area, to starting up the Cotati Farmers Market, the Cotati Chamber of Commerce works to promote the community and attract new businesses.

Mission Statement

The Cotati Chamber of Commerce is a volunteer member organization of business people and individuals that promote the economic well-being of the City of Cotati and adjacent lands. The Chamber fosters and promotes actions that enhance the local economy; provide employment, cultural and recreational opportunities; and protect and preserve the environment. We will continue to work together to ensure Cotati is an economically viable and desirable community in which to live and work.

Structure

The Cotati Chamber of Commerce is made up of two governing bodies: the Board of Directors and the general membership. The Board of Directors consists of ten elected members who are chosen each year by the general membership. These are the individuals who set policy and instruct Chamber staff on how best to serve Cotati through their monthly Board meetings. The general membership consists of local merchants and individuals who support the business community and pay annual dues entitling membership in the organization.

Funding

The Chamber is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization, funded by membership dues, fundraising projects, donations, and providing economic development services.
