METCALFE COOPERATIVE NURSERY SCHOOL
At the Metcalfe Cooperative Nursery School, Children move freely between defined activity centres including: Sand & Water Play, Play Dough Table, Crafts, Painting, Dress-Up, Manipulative Games and Large Motor Equipment. Daily programming also includes Morning Circle and Calendar, Snack Time, Story & Music Circle and Outdoor Play. Children in diapers are welcome in both our programs and teachers support toilet training efforts.
OUR PROGRAMMING
From September through mid-June we offer our morning Toddler Program and morning Preschool Program. In the summer we offer morning Kindercamps. Some extended hours of care are available for both. To supplement your child’s developmental and social experience, we also encourage you to visit our Live and Learn Resource Centre, where we offer programming for planning parents and families with babies and young children.
OUR TEACHERS
Some of our staff have worked with the preschoolers of MCNS for 2 generations of member families. We select our teachers for their skills, education, teaching style and experience within early childhood education. To learn about our current teaching staff, see Our Team.
Morning Nursery School Programs
Toddler Program (18 months to 2 ½ years)
School Year: September through mid-June
Class Time*: Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00
* Note: Schedule may change depending on numbers of children registered in a given school year.
Class Size: 8 toddlers (maximum)
Minimum Teacher to Child ratio: 1:4 (maximum)
Our Programming is based on developmentally appropriate activities with a focus on:
- Encouraging independence
- Exploring their environment
- Developing language
- Individual goals
Children in diapers are welcome and teachers support toilet training efforts.
Preschool Program (2 ½ years to 4 ½ years)
School Year: September through mid-June
Class times: Monday, Wednesday and/or Thursday from 9am to 11:30am
Maximum class size: 24 children
Teacher/Adult to child ratio: typically 1:6 including 1 duty parent & a student teacher (if applicable)
Our Programming accommodates different developmental stages with a focus on:
- Socialization
- Pre-reading and pre-math skills
- Creative, imaginative, cognitive and motor skills
Children in diapers are welcome and teachers support toilet training efforts.
KINDERCAMP
Our KinderCamp is a summer camp program for children ages 2 ½ to 6 years. Children participate in a variety of activities including outdoor and indoor creative play, crafts, science activities and games. KinderCamp provides quality care for your child in a safe and stimulating environment. KinderCamp is all about summertime fun!
EXTENDED CHILD CARE
Extended Child Care is available before and after the regularly scheduled school day (from 8:30 to 9:00 and from 11:30 to 12:00). Arrangements must be made in advance by speaking with the Executive Director or Head Teacher and the current fee applies in increments of one-half hour. NURSERY SCHOOL TUITION FEES
Fees are competitive with other cooperative nursery schools. To see our current fee structure*, review our Registration form at REGISTER.
Note: Our *fee structure is subject to review each year and therefore subject to change. If there is a discrepancy between fees listed on our website or in any other location and fees communicated by our Rural Family Connections Office, the fee information provided directly through our office overrides that of any other source.
We issue Childcare Tax Receipts for each child’s tuition. In addition, Metcalfe Cooperative Nursery School is part of the registered charity, Rural Family Connections. Therefore, a portion each child's tuition fees is eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
