TRANSFORMATIONAL VOICE performance/workshop

JILL BURTON is a voice/movement/energy artist who has been developing her unique style for over 40 years. Ladonna Smith of the Improvisor Journal calls her "...one of the great foundation improvisors of America." R.J. Smith of the Village Voice says, "Burton is a lounge queen, animal imitator, lawdy mama--she's terrific!"

Burton has been fully immersed in improvised and experimental music, dance and performance art for over 40 years; and for the past 20 years has been developing a unique synthesis of improv performance and intuitive vibrational healing. She recently moved back to Florida after living for six years in Sitka, Alaska, where she was deeply honored to provide musical accompaniment for Tlingit storyteller/shamans. She has worked with hundreds of improvising and experimental artists from around the world, and has taught and performed all over the country at every kind of venue imaginable, from major universities, museums and festivals, to funky hole-in-the walls, high schools and spiritual centers.

She has won numerous grants, awards and recognitions, including NEA, Florida Fine arts Council Individual Artist Interdisciplinary Award, Meet the Composer, and Robert Rauschenberg's Change, Inc. In Florida, she has presented work at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, University of Miami, the Salvador Dali Museum (the EMIT series), the Harn Museum of Art, the Florida Dance Festival and numerous other venues.

In the past year, she has worked with (among others) Davey Williams, Misha Feigin, Gino Robair, Andrea Centazzo, Chris Cochrane, Michael Evans, Judy Dunaway, Andrew Dewar, Evan Lipson, and touring artists Wade Matthews and Tatsuya Nakatani; as well as formiing new musical relationships with local Florida musicians, including Jim ivy, Kris Gruda and Travis Johnson.
