Amnesty International insists on reveal of a journalist calling the mobilization illegal

Amnesty International human rights watch agency insists on immediate release of Ruslan Kotsaba, a journalist from Ivano-Frankovsk, Vesty news website reports referring to the agency web site.

‘You can think differently about the position of Ruslan Kotsaba. But arresting him for revealing his social position, the Ukrainian authorities violate a basic human right to express opinions which the Ukrainians struggled for in the Maidan,’ said Tatyana Mazur, the regional director of Amnesty International in Ukraine.

Amnesty International calls Kotsaba a prisoner of consciousness and calls the Ukrainian authorities to let the journalist off. An independent media trade union believes that the actions of Ruslan Kotsaba, a journalist from Ivano-Frankovsk, do not contain element of crime stipulated for the respective rule.

Ruslan Kotsaba, a journalist from Ivano-Frankovsk, was detained because of a suspicion in treason and espionage, he is held in custody for the period of investigation. He faces a prison term for from 8 up to 15 years.

The journalist revealed a form of a rejection letter which he suggested men should apply to military registration offices (lawyers said later that the application would be invalid as the mobilization is legal).In the end of January Kotsaba taped a video is which he calls men to reject from mobilization as it allegedly was illegal as the was not declared.
