Does this mean filming for Episodes 7 & 8 will begin soon? I mean, are we done with filming for Episodes 5 & 6 yet?
Regarding the two-parters in Series 9, I think only 1/2 and 3/4 might be two-parters in the conventional sense (2nd part picking up from where 1st part left off).
The others (5/6, 7/8 and so on, if so) might not be two-parters per se (Eps 5 & 7 respectively ending with "To Be Continued..."). Those episodes might well be standalones but with a common linking theme - which might be revealed only in say, Ep 6 (of 5/6), or Ep 8 (of 7/8), etc.
@divya12 I believe that episodes five and six are, in fact, a two-part story due to the fact that the two episodes share the same cast (David Schofield has been cast as Odin in both episodes).
Given that three two-part stories begin the series, including the one mentioned above, I reckon it's likely that this series will have six stories, all in two parts. Kate Stewart will now be in two of those stories, it seems.
This series seems very unique. From what I can tell it's almost entirely serialised.
So another 2 parter then? Does that men that there are officially 5 2 parters this season?
I love that they are actually telling us this, unlike last year's "keep everything a secret and then leak the scripts" method.
True. Not a fan of that method. Too little information followed by way too much.
Osgood and Kate would've been a great team. I hate that Moffat killed her off. So much more potential. A real shame. But anyway, the Brigadier lives on through Kate Stewart.
@sjw309 I know. There's so much he could have done with her. If she did die, I would rather it would be in later episodes so we could see more of Osgood and kate together
@sjw309 Personally if I ever see Osgood again it will be too soon. UNIT's so much better without that character imo.
I hope there are some single episodes too. Two parters are usually for big scale adventures and i want some smaller and quick ones.
@Rani Nose @DWISCOOL100 That's pretty good. Similar to the Caves of Androzani. The poisoning and finding a cure element I mean.
@DWISCOOL100 Not all these "double episodes" are two-parters. Two-parters are like a two act play, like Dark Water/Death in Heaven, where the resolution of the second episode depends on the set-up of the first. Some of these double episodes are simply linked, where the story of the first episode is complete and the second episode is only slightly related to the first.
This could be something like the Doctor and Clara bringing take-out food back to the TARDIS after saving a village from a bad guy in the first episode. We see them eating the food at the start of the second episode but they quickly realise the food is poisonous to the Doctor so Clara pilots the TARDIS to a far away planet to find the cure. There is a bit of continuity between episodes but no cliffhanger, or dramatic tension between them (in that the story could have easily waited until the second episode to get food).
Another non-two-parter possibility is that instead of having two 45 minute stories they have one story that lasts 55 minutes over two episodes which leads directly into a second story that only takes 35 minutes.
I agree that we should have at least one one-parter. Every series has had that one, beautiful, stand-alone episode that couldn't have workedwith more time, for example Listen, The Girl who Waited, Midnight or Blink. I hope we get one of those that's not so big-scale, because those are always enjoyable.
@Rani Nose @DWISCOOL100 I... find both of those theories highly unlikely given what we know of the series thus far and how the DW team production team work.
No, I think you can count on at least 45 minutes for all episodes this series.
I'd be happy about this, but I'm too busy being annoyed that they haven't announced the writer(s) for these two. Still hoping to see Neil Cross on the roster, he deserves another shot. Though maybe Luther's taking up his time this year.
(Side note: interesting that this series so far has been filmed in strict episode order... I wonder if Peter and/or Jenna are being kept in the dark about something for as long as possible?)
@TheOtherJenny Well, Eps 3 and 4 were filmed before Eps 1 and 2, but otherwise yes you're right. The finale always tends to be the last filming block though, with the sole exceptions of Series 2 and 8.
@TheOtherJenny Maybe the finale cliffhanger Moffat teased last year?
I'd usually hate for the series to only consist of two parters but these episodes seem to be single parters with connections so I'm all for it.
Michelle Gomez is there! I'm now sure she'll be the series companion as there's still no sign of Clara.
This is obviously a Missy teaser. Michelle is sitting next to her, just in the shot enough to be seen. Then at the start she walks behind, coincidently when the camera starts rolling.
@TazminDaytime well maybe Coleman is filming another part of the episode in the studio. But, my possible silly theory is that Clara is gone and these episodes link together as a quest for the Doctor to find Clara. Just me.
@sjw309 @TazminDaytime That's what I was thinking too! I think Clara will be lost at the end of the 1st/2Nd episode and Missy will step in to help the Doctor find her. Maybe the audience will get some clues as to where she is... hence her spacesuit costume in the episode 3/4 filming.
@sjw309 @TazminDaytime Capaldi was barely seen in the video, lets not jump the gun just yet.
@TazminDaytime I'm pretty sure that isn't Michelle Gomez- they look similar, but on Gallifreybase, they seemed convinced it was a guest star named Jaye.
@TazminDaytime @sjw309 If she was filming in the space suit as a clue to where she was, why would she be filming that on location?
OMg i love my life right now. Looks like it could be a whole series of two parters! STeven Moffat I love you!
@4sure @DWISCOOL100 well that the very least their all connected which is basically a 2 parter! So that works for me!
Looks like episodes 7 and 8 will be another two parter (or at least two connected episodes). That makes four two parters in a row, if this is the case. Intriguing doesn't even begin to cover my feelings on the matter
@DWISCOOL100 @TazminDaytime It was a good death but I'm still saddened as she only died to make Missy look darker. Even though at the end Missy had good intentions? -,-
Wait at 17 seconds to the right-hand side is a woman with her hair up and glasses, which with the seating as usual, will most likely be a main character.
Is it just me who see's Michelle Gomez next to her? It looks so alike!
Love this news, great to have more Kate in series 9! My only issue is that a lot of these episodes seem to be Earth-based. The only episodes that may be set on an alien planet are the first two, other than that all episodes 3-8 now appear to be set on earth. So much for "going further in space and time" hahaha. Still really hoped though, and who knows where the final five episodes will take us.
I love Kate, so am very much looking forward to seeing her return in at least four episodes this series. It does make Osgood's death even more tragic knowing she could have been alongside Kate even more this series though!
Such great news, Kate Stewart's one of my favourite characters :). 2015 is definitely the year of Kate Stewart, with her on audio as well as in 4 episodes. Can't Wait!
Wonder if this means episodes 7 & 8 will be written by Moffat too, as he's the only writer to write for Kate (in new who anyways)
So excited :D
@Spoilerphobe Chris Chibnall wrote for her in her very first appearance in The Power of Three.
@Malohkeh Tbf, they did specify 'New Who' which Downtime definitely isn't.
@Spoilerphobe Well, no. She was introduced in the Power of Three, which was written by Chris Chibnall.
Ohhhhh, yeah, I forgot. Her debut episode was pretty dull in comparison with the episodes she featured in afterwards :P
