Looking ahead into 2011
Happy New Year! It's 2011, and changes are on the way in the Spokane market. This past November, KYRS-LP, was scheduled
to become KYRS-FM at 88.1, but due to still needing financing and winter weather that change will hold off until late spring or early summer.
Meanwhile fundraising for that new transmitter continues. Details can be found at their website www.kyrs.org.
After KYRS leaves 89.9 FM, KYMS (not related), waits in the wings to take more space with signal improvements into Spokane. Already this signal from Rathdrum
can be heard in the East Valley and North Side. KYMS is a religious broadcaster owned by Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, CA.
The station airs Christian preachers and a mix iof praise and worship music, along with
classic contemporary Christian music. Their schedule can be seen here www.kymsradio.com/program-schedule.html.
Dr. Laura's departure has made a shuffling of the deck at Newstalk 590, KQNT. Dave Ramsey moves from evenings to middays, 12 to 3pm, and Jason Lewis takes evenings
, on tape, 6 to 9 PM.
Over at Blue Sky Broadcasting new websites are on their way for K-102, KICR/KIBR, and also for 95.3 KPND. Look for them soon.
Although the economy is still limping, it looks somewhat bright for radio in Spokane. Advertising is slowly recovering on radio not only here, but nationwide, and I'm sure more changes are coming!

Remixed or Mixed up??
KPBZ has its own programming now. That one source is Remix Radio from PRX. Remix is somewhat strange music with old and new public radio vignettes thrown in.
You'll never now what you will hear next. The idea is to connect Generation Y with public radio.
Will it catch on in Spokane? I'm not sure, we are somewhat conservative in this market.
Personally I find it somewhat confusing, due to the fact that I never know what is next..
