Nishikaze Aikido Society of America (NASA) is an association of Aikido teachers and students dedicated to promoting and advancing the technical and philosophical tradition of Aikido developed by Shoji Nishio, Shihan through ongoing research and education.

Nishikaze Aikido Society of America is the official organization of the Nishio method of Aikido in the United States, established by Koji Yoshida, Shihan, Shoji Nishio’s personally appointed successor and affiliated with Aikikai Foundation Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.  NASA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity educational corporation.

Our goal is to share an expansive and continually evolving vision for the future of Aikido and to promote aikido in the tradition of Shoji Nishio Shihan.

NASA is also the official organization in the U.S. for Nishio Sensei’s iaido which is now referred to as Nishio-ryu Toho Iaido.  NASA establishes official standards and grading requirements and provides testing and promotion for Nishio-ryu Toho Iaido.

Shoji Nishio was a student of Aikido founder Moriehei Ueshiba. Nishio Sensei was a highly regarded martial art master in numerous disciplines and a great innovator in Aikido. His goal was to advance Aikido into the future, to ensure aikido’s place as an effective and technically sound martial art that adheres to the foundations of Japanese bushido as well as the philosophical vision of the founder.
