Andretti Autosport has announced Simona de Silvestro will rejoin the team to drive the No. 29 TE Connectivity Honda in the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 next May.

The 29-year-old Swiss is the fifth entry for Andretti in Indy 500, joining 2014 Indianapolis 500 Champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, 2013 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Carlos Muñoz and veteran racers Marco Andretti and Justin Wilson.

“I’m so excited to be representing TE Connectivity at this year’s Indy 500,” de Silvestro said in a release. “It’s really great that they’re partnering with me in my efforts during the Indy 500, and with their advance technologies in my Honda Indy car, I will for sure have one of the best opportunities to win during the Month of May.”

de Silvestro has started in 66 IndyCar races, including the 2015 opener in St. Petersburg Sunday where she finished 18th for Andretti.

“Simona did a great job for us in St. Pete and we are excited to add her as a fifth Andretti entry for the Indy 500,” said team owner Michael Andretti. “We could not have found a better partner than TE Connectivity to be the primary sponsor of the No. 29.”

The 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 goes green at 12 p.m. ET on May 24.

    Fantastic, Simona rocks!

On a second note…..I am really curious about the aero for Indy. Clearly, the picture here is with last years configuration, which I think really looks slick! When the Honda designer was interviewed at St. Pete he said that Honda put all emphasis behind the oval aero for IMS. Later in the broadcast it was suggested that the oval aero will not be revealed until the month of May. I am really interested to see what the oval aero looks like.

It is so very refreshing to see another Female Driver get a little limelight than Ms. Spoiled Brat. Especially One who is every bit as qualified ( if not a whole lot more qualified than Ms Princess ) Yahoo seems to be possessed w/Ms. Spoiled Brat Patrick. This is encouraging to Me to say the least. Best of luck and all to Simona

Danica’s Indy 500 success speaks for itself. As of now, Simona doesn’t come close to it.

How do you think Danica would react to driving with two burned hands?
