Movie magnate Tessa Ross has made a career as the power behind British film. As the controller of film and drama at Channel 4 and Film 4 from 2008 until last year, her credits are phenomenal, and she is continuing her success as chief executive of the National Theatre. Ross has been a key player in the UK’s independent film world, with Film 4 backing the multiple Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave. Since joining Channel 4 as head of drama in 2000, and becoming head of Film 4 in 2003, Ross has brought huge prestige to the business, producing such noteworthy titles as Slumdog Millionaire, Billy Elliot, Four Lions and The Iron Lady. In 2013, Ross won a BAFTA for her Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema in recognition of her successful career in film.
