Joey King Will Be ‘Going In Style’; Emory Cohen Enlists In Netflix’s ‘War Machine’

Joey King has joined Zach Braff’s next directorial effort Going In Style, alongside Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin. A remake of the 1979 caper film starring Art Carney, Lee Strasberg, and George Burns, the film will follow a trio of elderly retirees who decide to enliven their relatively dull existence by embarking on a criminal career. King will portray Caine’s granddaughter. The role continues King’s working relationship with Braff, having previously appeared together in Braff’s Wish I Was Here.

From New Line, Going In Style is written by Ted Melfi and produced by Donald De Line. Avy Kaufman serves as casting director. King is repped by Meredith Fine of Coast-to-Coast Talent Group and Dan Spilo of Industry Entertainment.

Emory Cohen has enlisted in Netflix’s war on terror-themed black comedy War Marchine. Based on Michael Hastings’ best selling nonfiction book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan, the film satirizes the handling of that war, and the people running it. Hastings, who died tragically in a 2013 car wreck, wrote the 2010 Rolling Stone story in which General Stanley McChrystal displayed open contempt for civilian authorities, including the president; McChrystal was forced to resign as a result of the ensuing fallout. Brad Pitt has already signed on to portray the film’s General McChrystal stand-in, and Cohen will play a member of the General’s platoon. Written and directed by David Michodhe, it’s produced by Pitt, along with Pitt’s Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, in association with Ian Bryce.

Cohen will next be seen in John Crowley’s Brooklyn, acquired earlier this year by Fox Searchlight, as well as in the films Detour, and Shot Caller. He’s repped by CAA and Harvest Talent Management.
