Little Fox – Edits

Edits

Little Fox is Simone Macarounas, an artist with a stand-out dainty voice, perfected by electronic hums and beats in her new song ‘Edits’. As a new listener to Little Fox, ‘Edits’ is fresh for me as it may be for older fans, since her last release was over a year ago.

‘Edits’ holds a melodic opening, and Little Fox is quick to start the first verse. Her vocal range in the opening verse is a broad high alto range. Her voice is impeccable, strong and every word is enunciated, before transitioning into a few staccato lines supported by a subdued synth buzz.

The chorus is a different matter – faint, heavenly, with the repetition of the line “it ain’t the way it seems”, sung in such a way that Little Fox is creating her own breathing echo. It’s an interesting and uncommon stretch from the verse’s vocal style, and the second verse also brings back the subdued synth in more prominence. A bass line supports the beginning of the verse and more percussion rounds the song out in a very intricate way. A few final touches of keyboard melody let the song ring out.

‘Edits’ is a well formed piece of work. Little Fox has a beautiful voice that she has used differently from most artists. The creative mix of electronic loops and sounds with such a porcelain voice turns an emotional ballad into a contemplative groove.
