Review
Sounding like an unearthed soundtrack from a forgotten ‘60s spy flick, Alias composer Michael Giacchino’s Pixar retro rouser is a jazzy, colourful, surprising delight. Owing huge debts to John Barry and Henry Mancini, Giacchino’s score is pure pastiche but is never campy, creating a musically muscular score that is sexy, swaggering and strident.

Standout tracks include the seductive lounge of Lava In The Afternoon, the majestic swell of Kronos Unveiled and the joyous action riffs of Road Trip, but the whole thing gives the entire orchestra a fantastic workout. It could do with a few pauses for breath, but this is still one of the most fun scores of the year.
