WALTER SMITH has slammed the SPL's 33-game split as 'unfair' and believes only an 18-club top division can unravel Scottish football's annual fixture puzzle.
The Ibrox boss voiced his concerns as Hearts prepared for their third visit of the season to Govan today - with Smith's players facing a third trip to Easter Road next weekend.
It is that lack of parity which concerns Smith most and, while an 18-club league carries no appeal for the money men, the Ibrox figurehead would welcome it on a purely football basis.
'I think the SPL split is unfair,' said Smith, who urged his players to earn him a decent summer transfer kitty by winning the runner-up spot that will guarantee Rangers a crack at the Champions League next season. …
