Mayor of London

Bakerloo line extension

The route would receive a frequent Tube service, improving journey times for customers and providing better connections within south east London, and into central London.

We are at the early stage of developing this new extension and have been considering options for the route and where it should end.

We consulted on these options in autumn 2014:

  • A route via Old Kent Road
  • A route via Camberwell
  • Terminating the extension at Lewisham
  • Terminating the extension at Hayes and Beckenham Junction (taking over an existing rail line)
  • Terminating at Hayes with a further extension from Beckenham Junction towards Bromley town centre

Our 2014 consultation showed that 95% of 15,000 responses supported the principal of an extension. Further consultations will take place once we have progressed plans further.

If a decision is made to progress the scheme, and the necessary funding secured, construction could start in 2023 with services running by around 2030.
