Our aim is to perform outstanding fundamental plant science research, providing the underpinning knowledge to support UK and world food security. Our core research lies in three main areas:

Photosynthesis

Leaf Structure and Function

Rhizosphere

but the expertise in our host departments (APS and MBB) extends to a spectrum of approaches relevant to food security, from advanced molecular engineering through to assessing environmental impacts of agronomy, modelling plant communities and global biogeochemistry.

Our research spans scales, from gene to ecosystem, providing a unique integrated approach to translational agritech: Project P3

Our research is closely aligned with the principles of the

Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures
