'Cowboys & Aliens' thesp tops Universal panel
Even after starring in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises Harrison Ford hadn’t made the trek to San Diego until this year with “Cowboys & Aliens,” the sci-fi western Universal Pictures and DreamWorks are co-producing, based on the comicbook series.
Ford received a standing ovation as he joined his co-stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell on stage. Thesp was escorted in handcuffs by two security guards, referring to the stabbing that took place prior to the panel in Hall H. As one attendee in a “Star Wars” T-shirt screamed, “You’re the reason I come to Comic-Con!” But the presentation was a short one with the cast getting the chance to say very little. Instead, director John Favreau unspooled scenes from the film displaying the look and feel of how the alien element would fit in with the old west feel. Favreau said the actioner wouldn’t be released in 3D on July 28, 2011, because he preferred the look of film and not video, which the 3D format technically is. He also didn’t want to convert the film to 3D. “That would be like filming in black and white and colorizing it,” Favreau said.
