You know, FQ, I've long had this suspicion that Lito Alvarez is a big Purefoods fan. We can all remember how he facilitated the return of Marc Pingris to Purefoods, giving up Arwind Santos to San Miguel in the process.
as I remember, your new year resolution is to stop mimicking firequinito et al. guess you should also stop making up stories or silly hypothesis
lito alvarez's idol was jaworski as mentioned during his speech in the pba opening years back. just because he facilitated the return of Marc Pingris to Purefoods, giving up Arwind Santos to San Miguel in the process doesnt mean he's a pfoods fan, look he facilitated lots of tradesto tnt and smb more than this single isolated case

For he who just looks at the surface, Lito Alvarez has facilitated trades to the big teams. Yes, that's correct.
But which particular trade increased the chemistry of one team, then destroyed that of another? It's the 3-way trade between SMB-PF-BK. The one that sent Pingris back to Purefoods.
Anyone could have foreseen that it is bad for SMB because they're coming off a championship then they're engaging in a big trade.

the trade happened because smb asked for it and not because air21 initiated it. kung maganda man kinalabasan ng trade for pfoods, labas na si alvarez dun. what matters to him is what he'll get in exchange for giving arwind to smb
if the aforementioned trade ruined the chemistry of smb, then blame the nincompoop who thought of giving away pingis

I still couldn't pinpoint any other deal involving Lito Alvarez that was both beneficial to one famous, powerful team and detrimental to another famous, powerful team.
If you can pinpoint one such instance, then I'll concede this debate.
Until such a time I stand by my theory that Lito Alvarez is a Purefoods fan. That when the deal was on the table he snatched it right away. Because he was one of us--the Purefoods fans drooling at, and begging for Pingris at that time. And that Lito was probably thinking, "yes, my Purefoods is going to have Marc Pingris back! This is our chance!"

2006-07 Season: Air21 gave up Ryan Bernardo and its 2007 and 2008 first-round draft picks to Coke for Rafi Reavis, Billy Mamaril and the rights to Rudy Hatfield which Air21 sent to Ginebra in exchange of Kalani Ferreria, Aries Dimaunahan, Manny Ramos, and Ervin Sotto.
Ginebra won the Philippine Cup on that year
Ginebra won the Philippine Cup on that year
That trade marked the exit of Coke from the SMC umbrella. Would you consider that a powerful, influential team? Try comparing that Coke team with the San Miguel team that just acquired Arwind Santos, Joseph Yeo and Denok Miranda before 2009-2010 season
hay naku dami palusot. sige na pagkalat mo nang pfoods fan si alvarez. ituloy mo din yung dati mong sinabi na jinx si richard del rosario, and all those nonsense talk you came up with. ikaw na, its you, its you
I'm not trying to make palusot. In your scenario, Coke was drained of its quality players. In my scenario, no SMC team was robbed.
By the way, this deal further supports my theory. Same offseason, same mastermind, Lito Alvarez
Remember this?
Purefoods acquires: (from Ginebra) Rafi Reavis Cholo Villanueva Paul Artadi Chris Timberlake
Ginebra gets: Enrico Villanueva Rich Alvarez Paolo Bugia Celino Cruz Burger King gets: Orlando Daroya Future Draft Pick
Ginebra got swept in the semis.
Alvarez helped Purefoods win the title by messing up with the chemistry of the finalists of the previous tournament, Ginebra and SMB.

Jaemark, Patricia Hizon has mentioned in her Twitter account that Phoenix Petroleum has plans of buying the Barako Bull franchise.
At least, George Chua finally has someone who will pay the salaries of his players.

Bravo Salud! But as much as I hate this trade, it's unfair (in a sense) that TNT can raid Sta Lucia (and bring back Peek a month later, and also stack Meralco) with Barrios' thumbs up while SMB can't do the same with A21 under Salud.
Hopefully it'll be an Alaska-ROS finals. Screw the SMB and MVP teams.

Lina franchise is moving from basketball to football.. mas practical if they expand their market throughtout asian region like Air-Asia in ABL..
Football in Asia has a viable market compare sa basketball na halos tayo lang ang may establish league like PBA... .Another reason yung economic woes na kung bakit tumataas ang bilang ng mga pinoy migrant workers sa abroad like middle east na maraming OFW and football ang religion..
Dahil sa pagdami ng OFW and lalo na pagnag-normalize ang political unrest sa Libya and other middle eastern countries lalong tataas ang GNP at remittances from OFWs natin that's the reason why Air21 is capitalizing these oppurtunitie for backing the popular football team of AZKALS.
kasi po frieght forwarding kaya practical and AZKALS has a regular games overseas and other fifa sanction tournaments.
Yan din po ang reason why smart communications is pouring all their investment sa football...That also pave the way na mag-establish ng national premier pro-football league sa june.
I will not be surprise if football is going to be big this year and beyond..Magkaroon ng iba't ibang league ng football nationwide.
Of course philippine basketball and PBA will stay dahil institution na yan...mahahati lang ang fan base ng dalawang sport or the fans will support sister teams ng basketball and football like real madrid fc and basketball team.

Tama lahat.
i don't know bakit isa siya sa strong candidate ng sbp for replacement of eala as exec.director..
Lito Alvarez? I can't believe why PNOY appointed him as a custom chief...conflict of interest dahil na sa air freight and courier business siya...unfair naman sa ibang may courier company na dumadaan sa x-ray ng customs....kaya nga nakaaway siya ni Mon Tulfo dahil kasisimula pa lang nya umupo..talamak na smuggling....according yan sa column ni Mr Tulfo.
Anyway goodluck and more power to Mr.Alvarez Boss because he lent his support to our Philippine football squad and the upcoming pro premier league on June.

pick our poison daw: Air21 or another SMC team. I'll choose the latter. :p
finally Air21 can join the DLeague where it freaking belongs.

Sell it but not to San Miguel or MVP. Sell it to a new buyer who like to be in the PBA but not to SMC and MVP. There are rumors that SM will join and they should join, they have been active in sports supporting NU, why not join the big league.
I agree SM group should join the PBA or d-league..According to fortune and forbes asia Magazine..Henry Sy is one of the most richest tycoon in Asia...He can field a competive squad in the PBA...magkakaroon pa ng rivalry among the billionaires in the country like cojuangco at pangilinan franchise..
What PBA need is a new packaging and additional board member from sm group to upgrade the quality of professional basketball.

Hi Jaemark. I hope you take time to read this. I'm sharing my post in hoops.blink.ph, I really wanted you to read this. All my facts come from a credible source. I would want to tell you my name but I don't want to compromise the organization I work for. But due to the great disappointment I have felt with the trade, here goes:
hello mr. benhur...
you know what, we live in the Philippines. Let me discuss to you your ideas one by one.
Player's Age- Relevant, but not quite. Remember how easily it could be tampered? And what does this really have to do with it? Some players peak early, some peak late. Would you take that into consideration when you trade?
Number of Years in the League- How would you feel if you took a certain Gilbert Lao (give or take around 10 years in the league) to be traded for a rookie like Rabeh or Baclao? Would you find it "fair"?
Player's Salary- oh the dreaded salary. Do you know that maximum salary players are protected, so whenever they transfer, their salary remains the same? Take for example the stupid contract of Joseph Yeo, whose max salary drove Sta. Lucia to bankruptcy. San Miguel took on this contract (stupid move 1) and couldn't move it since the Almighty Commissioner saw it as unfair. And you want it to be considered? How? He didn't.
Salary Cap- stupid ideal we wouldn't find in the PBA. Of all teams, you wouldn't expect half of them to be following this strictly. I know Alaska is, that's why they've let go of quality players over the years and just invested on young ones. But teams like TnT, SMB, Ginebra, Meralco, BMEG? Don't even bother. On paper, their salary would reflect something that would seemingly follow the cap, but they are given tons of bonuses every game that aren't declared. You think that isn't the case with superstars whose contracts are only for 200k/ month? Then they wouldn't bother putting up numbers as they could get injured. Ask a certain Danny Ildefonso.
Franchise Player Tags- Even the NBA has this. In the PBA, there is only one franchise player. Wynne Arboleda, the owner's son in law. There is no loyalty in the PBA, just look at San Miguel's classy move tonight. Do you know that whenever a small market team has a budding superstar, they negotiate with big teams like TnT or SMB for selling rights that would really come out as trades? Yes, those lopsided trades. Arwind to SMB? Cost them millions of money. To whom was this sent? Mr. Lito Alvarez's pocket. How about the late Barako Bull franchise? All of those trades had a corresponding price, yet the general public didn't even see it.
This is the PBA. Atin to. Stupid how we see it losing integrity over money. They try to cut costs but in the end, only end up spending more for these players. I was a lifelong San Miguel fan. It plateaued with their loss in the Philippine Cup finals. It ended with this trade of Dondon and Danny S. Even if they end up with a sister team, I have just completely lost faith in the PBA. No wonder people find it so easy to jump to the Azkals bandwagon.

guevarra included in this trade? why include this guy? this guy's a bust!
Totally agree with Jercuz.Don Don is much better player. At the end of the day, after this trade Air 21 is going to be stronger, not weaker, like most of the people think. On the other side I think, that SM wan't have the benefit they are expecting.
But ,it seems that there will be some more trades to follow!
