The Chargers reinforced their secondary on Wednesday, signing safety Brandian Ross and cornerback Cassius Vaughn.
A 6-0, 190-pound product out of Youngstown State, Ross has spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and Miami Dolphins totaling 183 tackles, 14 passes defensed, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two sacks in 44 games with 24 starts.
After signing as an undrafted free agent in 2011 with the Packers, he spent portions of the next two seasons on their practice squad. The Raiders signed him to their active roster early in 2012, and he played 43 of his 44 career games with Oakland. Ross’ top season came in 2013 when he played in all 16 games with 13 starts, totaling 101 tackles and 2.0 sacks. He also set a career-high in 2014 with eight passes defensed and two interceptions.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Broncos in 2010, Vaughn spent his first two seasons in Denver before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts for fullback Chris Gronkowski. Following two seasons in Indy, he played with the Detroit Lions in 2014 and one game this season with the Baltimore Ravens.
A 5-11, 195-pound veteran, Vaughn has played in 68 career games with 23 starts. He’s totaled 138 tackles, seven interceptions including two pick-sixes and 24 passes defensed. Vaughn saw the most action of his career with the Colts, playing in all 32 games over the 2012-13 seasons. He logged a career-high 70 tackles in 2012 and has a personal best three interceptions in 2013.
