Image Comics Announces KILL OR BE KILLED From Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips

“What if you were a grad student who had to start murdering people? What would you do?”

That’s the question that Ed Brubaker asks when describing his new ongoing series, KILL OR BE KILLED, at the Image Expo. The story, which features art from longtime collaborator Sean Phillips, follows a man in his late 20’s that needs to murder people on a certain timeline. Is there an external force guiding him? Is it all in his head?

Changing structure from his recent works, Brubaker is planning a large number of issues that’ll have an open-ended feel to them, at least in the start. After previous series set in older times, KILL OR BE KILLED will be set in the modern age. Don’t expect any “cell phone conversations taking up the entire page” or “Twitter status bubbles” though. This is still a hard-boiled vigilante tale, just with some interesting twists and turns.

KILL OR BE KILLED hits stores this August.

FROM THE OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:

KILL OR BE KILLED by Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, Elizabeth Breitweiser

Bestselling writer Ed Brubaker (THE FADE OUT, FATALE), artist Sean Phillips (THE FADE OUT, FATALE), and colorist Elizabeth Breitweiser (THE FADE OUT, FATALE, OUTCAST BY KIRKMAN & AZACETA) reunite for KILL OR BE KILLED, the ultimate pulp crime comic. KILL OR BE KILLED is the story of a troubled young man who is compelled to kill bad people, and how he struggles to keep his secret, as it slowly begins to ruin his life and the lives of his friends and loved ones.

Both a thriller and a deconstruction of vigilantism, KILL OR BE KILLED is unlike anything Brubaker and Phillips have done together in their long partnership.
