I’m always on the lookout for ways to make storage solutions pretty. For some reason, I find it much easier for me to keep things neat and clean if the storage area looks cute. Recently, I’ve been searching for a way to keep my jewelry tidy in my bedroom. My bracelets seem to have a bad habit of wandering off. They are never around when I need them!
So, I was thrilled when I found this simple, wooden coffee cup holder at a thrift store recently. I knew that all it would take was a coat of paint and some cute paper to make it into an adorable stand for my bracelets. I have a rather large collection of scrapbook paper and I thought it would be pretty to make a striped paper effect on the bottom of the stand. (and it was easier to work with the paper in small pieces versus one large circle that would have been difficult to cut exactly).
Want to know how to make a cute jewelry rack? Just follow the steps below.
Step one: Gather your supplies.
- Wooden coffee cup holder
- Spray paint
- Mod Podge Satin
- Pretty paper
- Foam brushes
- Scissors
- Circle paper punch
Step two: Prep and paint the cup holder.
Clean the mug stand and spray it with several light coats of spray paint. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. TIP: I was able to separate the top and bottom pieces of my cup holder. I loosened them prior to painting so that the stand could easily be taken apart later without scratching up the paint job.
Step three: Cut strips of paper for the base and attach them with decoupage.
Separate the base from the top of the stand. Starting in the center, cut a strip of paper that is longer than the diameter of the circle. Gently bend the paper over the edges of the wood circle. Use that fold as a guide for you to trim the paper strip. It may take a few attempts to get the paper to fit snugly on the circle. Brush a thin coat of Mod Podge down on the wood and smooth the paper on top of it.
Create another strip of paper that will fit next to the first one by repeating the same process above to measure and cut the paper. Brush another line of glue and adhere the paper to the wood. Depending on the thickness of the paper I was working with, sometimes the strip would slide under the prior stripe or over it. Repeat these steps to work your way across the entire wood circle. After you covered the whole thing in paper stripes, go back and cover the surface with 1-2 thin coats of Mod Podge on top to protect the paper. TIP: I decoupaged over the center hole where the top of the stand attached. Then, I just poked a hole through the paper afterwards so I could screw the top back on.
Step four: Decorate the ends of the hooks.
Use a small circle punch (or scissors) to cut out coordinating paper decorations for the end of the cup hooks. Brush Mod Podge onto each one and attach a circle of paper. After they dry, brush another coat of decoupage onto of each circle to seal them.
Step five: Assemble and add your bracelets!
Once both pieces are dried and cured, reattach the rack onto the wood base. Find a cute place to set your stand and place your jewelry on it!
Enjoy your pretty, new DIY jewelry organizer! By the way, this stand matches another jewelry organizing project I made. . . a tray for my baubles from a glass chip-n-dip serving piece. Sigh, I just love cute storage!

lovely, I recently picked one of these cup holders up cheap with similar intentions.
one idea I had was drilling a suitable hole in the bowl to combine the holder and trinket tray. tho might be tricky with ceramic, but plastic would be easy enough.
