Blast from the past
Joy Augustine (of Tere Mere Sapne fame) is directing Little Godfather, a film based on the 7/11 blast, which rocked the city. Joy has shot the film on actual locations with real-life characters. Not only that, he has even made a dummy train to recreate the blast scene. However, the train scenes to be depicted after the bomb blast will be shot in a real train at the Jogeshwari car shed.
Joy says, “Trains are the lifeline of Mumbai and lakhs of people commute by it everyday. The story speaks about how the blast affected the life of people in Mumbai. However, the motive behind this evil act, which was to spark a religious war, was not a success, as the incident saw people from all walks of life, caste, creed and sex come together to help each other in that moment of crisis. The film has real-life moments that have been shot at real-life locations.”
Adds Joy, “In depth research has gone into the making of the film and the railway authorities have supported it wholeheartedly. Even the Divisional Railway Manager, Satya Prakash supported the project and gave us the required permission to shoot in the ‘prohibited’ Mumbai Central control room, where everything went haywire on the day of the blast.”
Joy reveals with great excitement on how he recreated the blast sequence. He says, “A 72-foot long dummy train was made by Vinod Guruji and we shot the blast sequence in a mill in Worli. The protagonist of my film is Suraj Berry who sells books in a local train.”
Little Godfather is produced by Sunil Shetty's Popcorn Entertainment.
