Much has been talked about 100 crores films in India and the list is ever growing with one or two films joining the list after every alternate months. Some films like Dhoom 3, Chennai Express, Krrish 3, Kick, Singham Returns have achieved this feat in 3-5 days. So is it really the barometer which has to be set to determine a historic box office success? Absolutely not! 100 crores business is passe now and one need to look at something higher like 200 crores film in India which has been achieved by only 4 film till date (3 Idiots, Chennai Express, Dhoom 3 and Kick).

It will take two or three years more for a film to cross the landmark figure of 200 crores as easily as 100 crores are doing these days. So why not for instance look at the comprehensive business of Bollywood film worldwide? Collection coming from overseas are most often sidelined and people are hardly aware of its significance in determining a film’s business. There was a time when only Shah Rukh Khan film or the film being promoted on a very high scale used to open well in overseas market, 17 SRK films in top 30 highest grossing films in overseas market depicts the monopoly he has been enjoying in this market for long but now many films are doing excellent business overseas adding to the box office success of a Bollywood film.

Bollywood saw a rapid increase in the business of films in past 5 years. Industry which was growing at 20-30% suddenly took a leap of 50% and has further grown by 100% in past years. This increase has also made Bollywood films do very well in overseas market due to the tie up with foreign studios, corporate marketing and promotions.

My Name Is Khan became the first Bollywood film to collect 100 crores at Overseas box-office and share the elite list with Lunchbox of being only films whose business in overseas has been more than that of in India. Films like 3 Idiots, Chennai Express and Dhoom 3 has also crossed $20 millions at overseas market.

So which actor rules the worldwide box office? Which actor’s performance has been most consistent in past few years? This list will clear answer all your questions.

According to the box office collections of last 10 movies worldwide, the three Khans who dominated in 90s still hold the maximum box office potential with Shah Rukh Khan topping the list followed by Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.

Much was talked about Shah Rukh Khan and his movies not able to break records in past few years but when we look into the collections of his last ten movies, he’s the only actor whose last 10 movies have consistently managed to cross 100 crores worldwide and has quiet significantly justified the tag of ‘KING KHAN’. While most from his last 5 movies has grossed 150 crs and more in India, it has failed to cross 75 crores at the overseas market, Kick being his highest grosser at the overseas market. He started the league of 100 crore with Ghajini and did the same for 200 crores with 3 Idiots, there was lots of expectation from Dhoom 3 to be first film to gross 300 crores in India but unfortunately it was not able to do so but became first Bollywood film to gross 500 crores and more worldwide. He is at the third spot on this list with his last ten movies collection being.

– 3 Idiots: 385 crores

  2. It’s true that only 4 films are in the 200 crore club because Krrish 3’s real boxoffice collection was 185-190 crores. 240 cr. was the fake collection mentioned by the producers of Krrish 3…..

  16. The above calculation is not fare, if you count last 10 films of each khan thn shahrukh n salman’s film will be in the period of 2009 to 2014.. Where as for aamir considering the less movies he does, it is calculated since 2001 n during that the collection was quite low as compared to today’s collection. Last 3 films can b calculated for fare results.

  28. yeh shahrukh ka chamcha hai. yeh aamir ka movies list 2000 se liya aur shahrukha ka 2006 se, anyday aamir khan’s average per film is greater than shahrukh and salman. be fair and count from year 2006 with all actors to have fair analysis.

  38. Your method is flawed as it does not take inflation into consideration remember Lagan was released in 2001 ticket prices were considerably lower. Most of aamirs movies on your list are pre the 100 cr era. This is the old saying lies damn lies and stats anyone can make stats fit their argument as the writer has done here.

  39. Why “Wanted” collection is kept out of Salman khan’s list, and “Main Aur Mrs Khanna” has been included, which only have Salman in a small role? Its basically a movie with Sohel khan in lead role.

    • Not only that, Main Aur Mrs Khanna was released on 09th Sep 2009 and Wanted released on 18th September 2009. This stupid review not considered WANTED. This KOIMOI firm either owned by SRK or sponsored by SRK.

  44. collection shown here for SRK;s flim is reported higher than actuals..and Aamir;’s flim collection is reported lower than actuals..Also the entire analisis should be reported in inflation adjusted figures..since all the flims are not released in same year

      Main Aur Mrs Khanna was released on 09th Sep 2009 and Wanted released on 18th September 2009. Check WIKI of both the films.

Usually on resume people look at what you have done in recent 3 years ….Its unfair comparison when last of Aamir film was released in 2001 while that of so called king khan was released in 2006. Why not just look at last five years or since the beginning of the 100 crore club …that would be relatively fair comparison!
