Rahman Abbas

Rahman Abbas (born: 30 January 1972) is an Indian fiction writer. He writes in Urdu and English. Rahman Abbas has Master’s degrees in Urdu and English literature from Mumbai University. His novels are believed to be about forbidden politics and love.

Rahman’s maiden Urdu novel ‘Nakhalistan Ki Talash’ (The Search of An Oasis-2004), written when he was 24, created a storm in the conservative Urdu literary circles, and protests by conservative elements had forced him to resign from his post as lecturer in a junior college in the heart of Mumbai. This novel poses serious questions and discusses the identity crisis of Indian Muslim youths. Rahman received ‘National Award’ for this second novel ‘EK Mamnua Muhabbat ki Kahani’ (A Story of a Forbidden Love -2009) which depicts how Indian Muslims were being radicalized and indigenous and local culture along with dialects of Indian Muslims were attacked by political version of Islam. Rahman’s third novel ‘Khuda Ke Saaye Mein Ankh Micholi’ (Hide and Seek Under The Shadow of God-2011) was widely discussed in Indian newspapers, literary magazines and on TV channels. It was awarded ‘Best Book of Fiction-2011′ by Maharashtra State Sahitya Academy. However, Rahman has returned this award in 2015 in protest against raise of communal violence and intolerance in India.

Rahman’s fourth Novel ‘Rohzin’ published in February 2016 in Rekhta Celebration New Delhi.
