Singer/Songwriter Stephen Spender was born in London England before his family emigrated to Canada, living first in Winnipeg and Calgary before Vancouver where he now calls home.

Despite having a successful acting career which started with training at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and securing many TV, Film and theatre roles, Stephen felt there was always a huge pull to follow his singing and songwriting, and after some soul-searching decided to put acting on hold and pursue music full time.

He cut his teeth playing in Vancouver’s Granville Island Summer Performance Program. As he explains “Performing at Granville Island helped me develop into a confident and recognized artist and also helped find my voice"

Since these humble beginnings he has recorded two full length albums with Juno Nominated producer David Meszaros.

Describing his newest work Crowded Heart, Stephen says "This album just cuts to the bone a little more. I'm really proud of it. It's similar stylistically to my other music, with an Americana-folk feel, but I think somethings evolving. I’m pretty excited to share this one with the world".

As for the future" I just want to keep growing and finding different ways to express and mature... and be filthy rich of course!”

Stephen plays regularly in Vancouver and surrounding venues. He also performs nationally, a recent highlight being opening for the Arkells in Yorkton Sakatchewan for the Stanley Cup celebration.

Alongside his solo work, Stephen is also Lead Singer and lyricist for the east coast band Bigtop.
