The Netherlands are to participate in the Turkvision Song Contest 2016 represented by Elcan with the song “Ana vətən” (My Motherland).

The Netherlands are to participate in this years Turkvision Song Contest represented by the singer Elcan Rzayev. Elcan will be representing the country with the song “Ana vətən”. The song will be performed in Azerbaijani and has been written and composed by the singer himself. Elcan was born in the Capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, singing and music has been an integral part of the singer’s life so far.

After graduating a school which specialised in the performance style of praised Azeri tenor Bulbul he enrolled in the Music Academy of Arts of Azerbaijan. After his time at University within Azerbaijan he moved to the Netherlands to continue his studies. Since 2000 Elcan has resided in the Netherlands and has performed across the country and around Europe. To date Elcan has released three studio albums and has appeared in a number of competitions.

The Netherlands joins Sweden as the two European countries announced to date as debuting in this years Turkvision Song Contest in Turkey. Both countries were part of a rumor stating that Sweden, the Netherlands as well as Latvia and Poland will be debuting in this years contest. The confirmation of the Dutch debut in the contest brings the number of countries known by Eurovoix World to be participating to 17, confirmed so far are:

The Turkvision Song Contest was first held in 2013 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir. The contest which is open to Turkic nations and regions such as Turkey, Kazakhstan and Yakutia. The contest follows a similar format to the Eurovision Song Contest, with songs limited to being 4 minutes long. To date Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have won the contest.
