30 Taliban killed in Uruzgan operation
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Thirty Taliban rebels including a notorious commander have been killed as a result of air and ground operation in central Uruzgan province, the military said on Saturday.
According to a statement from the 205th Atal Military Corps, the operation codenamed “Atal” targeted militants in capital Tirinkot and Chora district in the past 24 hours.
The statement said the operations in Sar-Chokholo and Nachin localities of Tirinkot and Niazio area of Chora district resulted in the killing of 30 militants.
It said Hajji Mohammad aka Haji Lala, Taliban shadow district chief for Chinarto district, was among the dead.
Brig. Gen. Wali Jan Sarhadi, the provincial police chief, confirmed the operations were ongoing over the past two days
He said the slain Taliban commander killed five workers of an organization after kidnapping them.
