Russ Williams is leaving Absolute Radio after 23 years at One Golden Square to host a national breakfast show for Global.
He’s replacing Andrew Castle on Smooth Radio breakfast in London, and nationally on Smooth Extra via DAB.
The former Capital, Virgin and talkSPORT presenter will take over on Tuesday 29th March from 6am till 10am, leaving Absolute Radio where he currently hosts Rock n Roll Football and has been since it launched in 1993 (as Virgin).
Russ said: “The opportunity to join Global and to work with Richard Park and Sam Jackson at Smooth was simply too good to miss. I am really looking forward to waking up London on Smooth Radio and the rest of UK on Smooth Extra.”
Sam Jackson, new managing editor of Smooth, said: “Just two years after we launched Smooth, it is already the third biggest commercial radio brand in the UK with an audience of five and a half million people every week so we know we have a winning formula. Russ is one of the country’s top radio presenters and I know our listeners will love him.”
Andrew Castle remains on Smooth as the host of The Great American Songbook on Sunday evenings and will take up another role at Global – details of which will be announced soon.
