Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #130!
And #ReadYourWorld with Multicultural Children’s Book Day!
You’re gonna love our features today! No need to update your passport or buy an airplane ticket. No need to check out the weather and try to pack appropriately. No need to make hotel reservations and check the museums for their hours. No need to even leave the comfort of your own home (unless you want to!).
Nope – today we take you on a tour to cultures and countries around the world via blogs and books!
Friday is MultiCultural Children’s Book Day, and of course you’ll want to check back here for our own contribution to the festivities. Today, however, we’ll be setting the stage, so to speak, for that fun and educational event, by featuring posts sharing activities and books from other countries.
Read and enjoy, friends – and appreciate the wonderful variety in people and cultures that God has created..
Make sure to follow the fun on Instagram, using the hashtag #ReadYourWorld, and Twitter @MCChildsBookDay
And if you’re still trying to get your post-holiday groove on, my friend Misty at YearRound Homeschooling is sharing some of my thoughts and encouragement in “Can a Word of the Year Help Your Homeschool?“
Check it out and share it with a friend or two <3 <3
…on to the fun…on to the learning!
Learn About Ancient China for Multicultural Children’s Book Day
This amazing celebration and encouragement of multicultural books for kids was created by Mia Wenjen of PragmaticMom and Valarie Budayr of Jump into a Book. These ladies saw a definite need for books that celebrate the diversity that makes up the U.S. population, and they’re on a mission to get that need filled. I’m down with that, so I’m jumping on board this year to review 3 books for you by Carol P. Roman from her If You Were Me and Lived in… series.

Celebrating Chinese New Year (What to Read Wednesday)
And yet another feature from LitMamaHomeschool ~
Books to Read for Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is on January 28, just in time for Multicultural Children’s Book Day (which is on January 27). Whether you’re celebrating or looking to learn more about it, you need books and activities to enjoy.
You know I’ve got the goods.

Traditional Mexican Tostadas with Refried Beans
These Traditional Mexican Tostadas are very similar to the ones you’ll find at TGI Fridays. Crispy fried corn tortillas topped with refried beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and jalapenos. What’s not to love? My husband was completely satisfied (for more reason than one–wink).
So if you’re ever in a bind and need a quicky–I mean a quick, comforting appetizer or main dish–to turn you from zero to hero, make these Traditional Mexican Tostadas. They’re amazing and will get you back on your A-game every time.

Cinque Terre: Lunch in Riomaggiore
This post is a feast for the eyes – think of it as a visual travelogue! Walk the streets of Riomaggiore, Italy with sisters Tomiko and Meinhilde. Visually savor lunch at a street cafe. Thrill to the pale blue waters of the marina, the bright red tiles of the roofs and rich greens of the countryside.
How beautiful our world is!
